Is it cheaper to file one EUTM or several national trademarks?
It depends on how many countries you need. A single EUTM (€850) is usually cheaper than filing in four or more member states individually, and it always covers all 27. For one to three target countries the national route can be cheaper — Germany is €290, Spain €125 electronic, Italy ~€149 — but it covers only the states you file in.
What is the EUIPO SME Fund and how much does it reimburse?
The EUIPO SME Fund "trade marks and designs voucher" reimburses 75% of the trade-mark application and additional-class fees — at both EU and EU-national level — capped at €700 per beneficiary, for the filing cycle only (not renewals). It is granted before you file, on a first-come first-served basis. The 50% rate applies only to international (WIPO) registrations, which this tool does not model.
What does "unitary character" mean for an EUTM?
An EUTM is a single right covering all 27 member states at once. The flip side is that an earlier right or an absolute ground for refusal in just one member state can defeat the whole application. If that happens you can convert the EUTM into national applications while keeping the original filing date.
Do EUTM renewals cost the same as the original filing?
Yes. Since the EUIPO aligned renewal fees to filing fees, electronic renewal is €850 for one class, +€50 for the 2nd, +€150 from the 3rd onward, per 10-year cycle. The SME Fund does not apply to renewals.
Why do Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg collapse into one filing?
There is no separate Belgian, Dutch or Luxembourg trademark office. All three are administered jointly by the Benelux Office for Intellectual Property (BOIP), so selecting any of them produces a single BOIP filing rather than three.
Are these the official fees or do they include attorney charges?
